Measured Impact
At Island Brewing, looking after the planet was never something to tack on later. It was built into the way we designed our business. From day one, we committed to an earth-forward framework: measuring and tracking the impact of our brewery so we can make smarter decisions and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
Accurate data is the foundation of progress. That is why we have focused on installing systems to monitor our solar performance, giving us a clear picture of how much of our electricity comes directly from the sun. This information guides our decisions, highlights where we can improve, and sets the stage for future expansion.
2023: The First Step in Renewable Energy
In 2023, we installed 88 solar panels, generating 25 to 30 percent of our electricity from renewable sources. This was not just about lowering reliance on the PLN grid. By producing clean energy on site, we cut down emissions, reduced air pollution, and diversified our power supply while keeping our beers flowing.
2024: Doubling Down on Solar
In 2024, we expanded our array to 128 panels, a 52.2 percent increase. That pushed our solar capacity to 67 kWp, producing an average of 9.1 MWh each month and raising our self-sufficiency to 36.1 percent. Every extra kilowatt generated was a step toward brewing with more independence and less reliance on fossil fuels.
2025: Building for Smarter Reductions
In 2025, our focus has been on expansion and tracking. While no new panels have been added yet, we have prioritized refining our solar monitoring systems and preparing the brewery for its next stage of growth. By understanding our energy use in detail, we are setting ourselves up to take bigger steps in the years ahead.
Brewing a Better Future
From 2023 through 2025, our path has been about more than beer. It has been about laying foundations, keeping promises, and growing in ways that lighten our footprint. Every glass poured carries not just the taste of hops and time well spent, but the knowledge that it was brewed with care for the place we call home.

Island Brewing X NIU
Mattia from Island Brewing sat down with Oliver from NIU to have a little chat about the awesome collaboration between these two companies. With mutual goals to reduce negative ecological impacts from each business, these two have put their heads together to work towards a common goal.

Solar panels help our brewery to save money on energy bills over the long term. This allows us to invest more resources into other areas of the business, such as building efficient systems and expanding our earth forward initiative.
The importance of solar panels for our brewery lies in the ability to provide a sustainable and cost-effective source of energy, while also helping to reduce their impact on the environment.

The value of electric vehicles for Island Brewing lies in its capacity to offer a sustainable and affordable mobility option, as well as aid in lowering the environmental impact of the brewery. Breweries may make a significant step toward a future that is more ecologically friendly and sustainable by adopting electric transportation.
Tracking electricity usage is important for Island Brewing's brewery as it can help the company identify areas where energy efficiency improvements can be made. By monitoring electricity usage, the brewery can gain insight into how much energy is being used and where it is being consumed. This can enable the brewery to identify opportunities to reduce energy waste and optimize their energy usage, ultimately leading to cost savings and a reduced environmental impact.
